Drunk Elephant: Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser

My skin has always been a challenge to say the least. I've always dealt with acne since I was in my early teens. I had hormonal + stress acne that would develop into cysts or nodules that would be painful. To make matters worse, I would pick at the acne only inflaming and damaging the skin even more.

I was eventually taking an oral medication (also a birth control) called Othro Tri-Cyclen Lo and two topical treatments. After time it did help prevent new painful acne from forming, but I felt like it was only masking the problem and not fixing the root cause.

I have currently stopped taking that medication due to its side-effects but I've been trying to heal my skin without medication. I had ran out of my Angels on Bare Skin by Lush but I was wanting to try something different. So I searched Sephora and stumbled across the Drunk Elephant Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser- I had heard amazing things about the company online and through a fellow YouTuber Ingrid Nilsen.

After an internal debate, I finally settled and purchased the jelly cleanser. The generous women working at Sephora also gave me three samples to try: the B-Hydra Intensive Hydrating Gel, the Virgin Marula Oil, and the TLC Framboos Glycolic Night Serum. (I won't be reviewing the night serum - I haven't tried it yet but I will report back once I've given it a fair trial.)

Let me tell you - the purchase was well worth it.

About The Company

Founded by Tiffany Masterson she created the line that was free of what she calls, "the suspicious 6". What would that include might you ask? Well, all of her products are free from:

-essential oils

-drying alcohols

-chemical screens

-SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate)

Another bonus is her products are cruelty-free and some are also vegan.

Beste™ No. 9 Jelly Cleanser

It's been about two weeks since I originally purchased this cleanser and it has truly changed my skin for the better. I struggled with redness along my jaw and lower cheeks and uneven/dull skin-tone. The main reasons why my skin has been showing signs of dryness, is due to adjusting to living in a high altitude and being dehydrated.

After one use I could already tell my skin felt clean without that tight/dry feeling afterwards. At night I typically apply it to: my face, neck and chest area. (I have combo/dry skin) I follow with the hydrating gel and Marula oil and my skin soaks it right up.

It cleans the skin so well, I no longer need to cleanse in the morning besides rinsing my face with water then moisturizing.

The cleanser contains mild cleansing agents, some coconut oil based, that gentle clean the skin without the use of harsh and drying chemicals. It also contains virgin marula oil, glycerin, and cantaloupe fruit extract. (If you have a melon allergy, I wouldn't recommend using this product but either use their JuJu Bar or PeKee Bar.)

Overall I'm excited to see the long term benefits of this product while also using other Drunk Elephant skincare items.

The B-Hydra Intensive Hydrating Gel + Virgin Marula Facial Oil

I would highly recommend combining the two for deep hydration. For me personally, they work better when combined since I have such dehydrated skin. If you don't deal with as much dryness as myself, you could easily get away with using one or the other depending on your needs.

The B-Hydra Intensive Hydrating Gel contains pro-vitamin B5, pineapple ceramide, barberry extract, and many more hydrating ingredients. After applying it the gel had soaked into my skin within 10-15 seconds, leaving my skin plump and hydrated.

What I was the most impressed with was it's ability to not sit on the top of your skin or clog pores. It also doesn't need reapplying and has helped with my oiliness in the t-zone area.

The Virgin Marula Oil was also very impressive with it's ability to sink into the skin and immediately hydrate without sitting on the skin. I gently pat it into the skin and it does take a little longer to soak in compared to the hydrating gel.

Marula oil contains antioxidants with high levels of vitamins C & E and also includes fatty acids. Since it's molecule size is so small, it's able to soak in deeper layers of the skin.

In the end I definitely prefer combining the two products after the jelly cleanser and my skin feels clean and hydrated all day and even the next morning. Normally I wake up feeling like my skin is dirty, but since switching I no longer feel that way.

Here are some before and afters since using the cleanser. It may not look like a huge difference, or any at all, but I can feel the difference. I can't wait to see how to helps my skin in the next few weeks and months. (No editing has been done on either photo - both taken from my iPhone)

{Before - Nov. 1st // After - Today}

I may have to give you guys another update in a month or two after trying more of their products along with the cleanser.
